144 000 - some wierd figures. Will partakers top 10 000 in 2009??
by hamsterbait ini counted up the deaths/ new partakers over the 71years 1936 to 2007.. i assumed 70 as the average lifespan, which means we can reasonably expect a decline of 1.43% each year.. those dead: 14 707 new partakers: 52 312.. average deaths each year: 207. average new partakers each year: 737.. this gives a combined total of memorial partakers between 1936 - 2007 of 66 839. according to the witchtower of 1988 15/12 there were 27 006 partakers in 1936. smell anything yet?.
1: where those dying (3 figures) exceeded new partakers (2 or single figure) 16 years out of 71.. 2: at no point did the number of deaths in a year exceed 561.. 3: lowest number of deaths 122 in 2003. lowest number of new partakers 3 in 1988.. 4: highest deaths 561 in 1938. highest number of new partakers 10 677 in 1937.
5: nine years where the new partakers are in four figures.. 6: of the 43 years where both deaths and new partakers are three figures new partakers are higher in 21 years.

Jehovah's Witness accused of raping and sexually assaulting

First, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence, and secondly, I think it is a bit unfair to start off the article with "A Jehovah's Witness..." That really does show some ignorance. If he was Anglican they wouldn't bring that to your attention, at least not in the first sentence.
I thought I would just beat the JWs on this thread to the punch.

Jonestown cult and the JWs
by jonathan dough inanyone see the recent cnn special on jonestown?
it really bothered me, particularly when listening to the survivors talk about the amount of control exerted over them; they were afraid, terrified, couldn't just walk away, family members were snitching on each other, families were split up in the end, tugged out of arms, they were well dressed seemingly happy people who were clapping and cheering until you looked in their eyes.. the similarities with the jws isstaggering.

they have the legal right, long established, to do precisely as they do.
Maybe in the USA, but how about the other countries the JWs have a presence? Just because it is legal doesn't make it morally acceptable, either. And that legal status can always change. You also have to look at the whole package, and extrapolate where it could be heading.
Don't be such a JW apologist. You might end up with blood on your hands. To completely ignore this on the basis of one of your preferred "tactics" whatever they might be assumes that your tactics have worked to date. But have they really? What should we do, send them an email (Don't drink that!) when it's too late?
The Watchman doesn't just watch.
No matter the criticism, they will still interpret criticism as persecution.

But just because this horrible situation exists still doesn't mean that JW's are planning or otherwise equipped for pulling off their own "Jonestown" scenario. We are talking of two different matters.
Not necessarily. This isn't the only "horrible" situation. You have to look at the bigger picture, the entire spectrum of JW mindset. And nothing has been said to the effect that they are currently "planning" anything, and as for their inability to pull something like this off, well, that's purely speculative. I've seen them feed a lot of people. And right now millions are marching lock-step to the same drum beat. I'm certain they could pull the trigger if they wanted to. And no, I'm not claiming they could net all 7 million.

JW's have established their own right of existence to the Supreme Court. Freedom of speech and religion means they aren't going anywhere.
Who said anything about disbanding the religion outright? I've gone to great extent, on this board, defending their right to exist as a religion. But the courts can and do step in when it goes too far. Force little girls into marriage with older perverted men? Courts will step in. Polygamy? Not allowed.

How much was Christ's ransom sacrifice? Equal to Adam?
by jonathan dough inhow much was the ransom?
gods justice did not require an exact equivalent man-for-man sacrifice between the first adam and jesus, the second adam.
gods gift required more.

How much was Christ's ransom sacrifice? Equal to Adam?
You start from the position that an equivalency, a ransom payment, is needed. You start from a false position. There was no need to replace a sinning Adam with a sinless Jesus. There was only love. Infinite love. This exceeds Adam's finite failure.
Uh, I don't think you read my original post, the first one at the very top where I argue the opposite. I think we agree, but you didn't actually read it, did you? Understandable as it is long and maybe a bit difficult to understand? The title of the thread actuall is rhetorical and begs the question.

The suicide rate is astronomical
The only thing keeping them from actually killing us all off is that we have "worldly" laws, they HATE non witnesses so much they WISH they could kill us but cannot and that is why they SHUN us AS THOUGH we ARE dead!
Easy does it. They will accuse you of hysterical hyperbole, but we get your point. And feel your pain.

I say this, not to upset Dough or anyone who agrees with him.
There ain't nothin you could say that would upset me.
To argue for this does no real good in exposing the real faults of the GB and the WTBTS.
The real faults? If you don't think this is one of their real faults .... sheesh.
